Did God Make the Sabbath for the Jews?

Sabbath

Did God make the Sabbath for the Jews only?

Jesus said that the Sabbath was made for man (Mark 2:27). The Greek word for “man” is anthropos, which means “human being” or “mankind.” Therefore, Christ made the Sabbath for all mankind—not to mention that Jesus should know exactly who the Sabbath was made for, considering that He is the Creator and Lord of the Sabbath (Ephesians 3:9, Mark 2:28).

Nowhere in the Bible is the Sabbath referred to as “the Sabbath of the Jews.” In fact, Isaiah 56:1–8 reminds us that God has pronounced a blessing on anyone who honors the Sabbath—even the Gentile.

So, in conclusion, the Sabbath is a universal blessing for anyone who will honor God by keeping it holy. Everyone should keep the Sabbath now, just as everyone will keep it holy in the newly created Heaven and Earth (Isaiah 66:22–23).
