Is it okay to seek the services of spiritual card readers?
Spiritual or tarot card readings are dangerous forms of spiritualism that are forbidden by God in the Bible. Although card reading is not explicitly mentioned in Scripture, the truth behind it is clearly addressed in the Bible. Consider the following verses (emphasis supplied throughout):
“You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying…. Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:26, 31
“And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people… A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death….” Leviticus 20:6, 27
“Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” Revelation 22:14-15
Spiritual card readings fall under the category of practicing divination, soothsaying, and sorcery. The idea behind these card readings is that the reader has the ability to translate the meanings of cards that are forms of communication with spirits that know the past, present, and future of a person. God forbids these types of practices because the communication is very much demonic. The card readers are communicating with evil spirits, if at all.
This was such a serious issue to God that violators of His command in this area would be put to death (Leviticus 20:27) in Old Testament times. Those who communicate with lying spirits will not inherit the kingdom of God (Revelation 22:15). Therefore, the only safe thing to do is to trust that God knows what’s best and stay away from spiritual card readings in any form.
