Is the New Covenant only for Israelites?
Many people assume that the New Covenant is only for Israelites because it is addressed to the house of Israel and the house of Judah (Jeremiah 31:31, 33). However, Paul clears up any confusion in his letter to the Galatians:
“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:26–29
Even though both references in Jeremiah and Hebrews seem to address the New Covenant to the Israelites, Paul clarifies that anyone who is “in Christ Jesus” is considered part of the spiritual lineage of Abraham and therefore “heirs according to the promise.” This means that it doesn’t matter if you are a blood Israelite or not. If by faith you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, then you can reap the benefits of the divine redemptive plan He ratified with His blood through the New Covenant. In other words, we become spiritual Jews, and are now members of the spiritual house of Israel. This is further confirmed in the book of Romans:
“For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.” Romans 2:28–29
If you are a believer in Christ, the New Covenant is for you!
